The work of EUL Architecture students during the design week drew attention
The traditional design week of the Faculty of Architecture of the European University of Lefke was held. Concentrating on different designs in 3 different groups, the students experienced group work for 4 days by putting their knowledge about design into practice.
It was aimed to design a structure for the open space.
Within the scope of the ’3D Touch to Open Space/A 3D Touch to an Open Space’ workshop, it was aimed to design a structure for the open space between the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Health Sciences. It is aimed that the space defined by the structure is suitable for multi-purpose use.
The study, carried out by a group of 27 students of Architecture and Interior Architecture, was carried out by Faculty of Architecture faculty members Asst. Prof. Dr. Makbule Oktay and Asst. Prof. Dr. N. Gözde Oral. The following information was given about the workshop; At the beginning of the study, the materials to be used were introduced to the students and they were expected to design and build a 3-dimensional structure by combining their design skills, structural knowledge, and design-application skills using the determined materials. At the beginning of the process, the students made researches on the material, structural system, technical analysis for the implementation of the structural design they were going to design and modeled the structure they wanted to design. The designs they wanted to implement were selected from the resulting designs and the implementation phase was started. The four-day study started with sketches in the workshop environment and ended with the application outdoors. The structure, which was designed as four units, has the ability to be moved to different points of the campus and to come together in different ways. One of the units was made using the ‘Da Vinci bridge’ system, which is created by interlocking parts.
Chess pieces were produced with contemporary design interpretations of architecture students
The SPACE(US) workshop designed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Erçim Uluğ and Dr. Ersan Öksüz was aimed at the construction of a public chessboard for the European University of Lefke. In this context, the SPACE(US) workshop was designed and produced for the floor and game pieces required for the chess game that aims to socialize in the open area. The chessboard, which was built as 6 meters by 6 meters in the European University of Lefke campus, was designed and built by 40 students studying at the EUL Faculty of Architecture. The chess pieces, which reach a height of one meter together with the black and white chessboard, were produced with the contemporary design interpretations of architecture students. The first and only chessboard with a contemporary design interpretation in the TRNC, the design awaits the visit of all chess and design lovers.
A recycling-oriented design was aimed at the workshop.
In another workshop organized by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nilay Bilsel and Asst. Prof Dr. Damla Mısırlısoy, a recycling-oriented design was aimed. In the design and construction process, in which students contributed in line with current sustainability principles, a pavilion was built using recycled materials that add a social function to the public space. This study offered students from different disciplines the opportunity to work together in the joint design process. During the design and implementation process, which took place with the intense interest of the students, the students had the opportunity to gain experience in the fields of structure and material knowledge.
