The first museum education book of EUL Academician Kömleksiz was presented to President Tatar
European University of Lefke (EUL) Dr. Fazıl Küçük, Faculty of Education, faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Ferda Öztürk Kömleksiz prepared the “Museum Education Book with Activities”.
The “Museum Education Book with Activities”, prepared by Kömleksiz based on the archeology and nature department objects of the TRNC Güzelyurt Archeology and Nature Museum, is the first museum education book prepared for museums in the TRNC.
Kömleksiz said, “Today, museums can help plan museum trips by prioritizing the needs of people (teachers, students, families, different age groups, different disability groups, etc.) who will visit the museum, and they can offer educational and entertaining activities to these visitors. conveyed the information; If the activities to be held in the museum are planned for teachers and students, this plan is usually made in cooperation with the school-museum and in accordance with the curriculum. In this way, museums can be saved from being seen as boring places that are visited quickly once or twice a year and come back without doing anything in the eyes of teachers and students. Children who cannot experience the museum interactively may perceive museums as frightening, cold and boring places. The fact that museum tours become meaningful begins with the people participating in the trip enjoying spending time in the museum. Museums can contribute to the habit of going to the museum by organizing educational programs and activities for schools, families, and local people. It is a fact that the educational importance of museums is increasing day by day in the world. For this reason, museum education should be started at an early age and should be given in appropriate subjects of different courses and often simultaneously, regardless of course separation.
Kömleksiz continued her statements as follows; Many courses that overlap with the collections of museums can be taught within the scope of museum education. While preparing their annual plans and lesson programs, teachers can practice many lessons they will do in the classroom environment in museums and they can use museums as learning environments outside of school. Examples of activities in this book; According to the 1st-5th grade learning outcomes of the TRNC Ministry of National Education Basic Education program; Developed for eight lessons (Life Science, Social Studies, Turkish, Mathematics, Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, Science and Technology) as pre-museum activities, activities to be held at the museum, and activities to be held after the museum, they were prepared as independent activities. In line with the opinions received from museum education experts, student and teacher goals and expectations were determined and museum education activities were finalized.
