Support for Down Syndrome Awareness March from EUL
Students and academicians of European University of Lefke Department of Special Education participated in the “Wear your socks and come” titled awareness march organized by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) and LTB Youth Assembly Un-Disabled Youth Chamber on the occasion of World Down Syndrome Day.

EUL’s academician Hatice Bilmez who participated in the 3rd Down Syndrome Awareness March which was organized with the aim of creating awareness in the T.R.N.C said that “ On November 10, 2011, the United Nations recognized 21 March as the official World Down Syndrome Day. The most important reason for the election of March 21 is the fact that there are 3 21st chromosomes which represents Down syndrome”. Bilmez pointed out that as the EUL Department of Special Education and ÖÇEM they participated in the event organized by LTB and added that they shouted slogans such as “Real friends don’t count chromosomes; the world is beautiful with differences” in order to show that they stand by the individuals with Down Syndrome.
