Independence Day of Nigeria Celebrated
The “Independence Day of Nigeria” organized by European University of Lefke (EUL) Student Dean’s Office and External Relations has been held at the EUL Rauf Raif Denktaş Education Complex Conference Hall with various events. The event was attended by the staff of EUL Student’s Dean and External Relations Directorate and students. The event began with a series of speeches which were about establishment date of Nigeria, meaning and significance of the day. Later on the event proceed with theatrical performances and the cultural shows of the students which allowed them to celebrate their national day with enthusiasm.
Nigerian students expressed their feelings about Independence Day, the importance of the day for them, how they organized the event, and what activities could be done to differentiate the organization in the future;
Humgoguoa Wuti-Nzokala: I am a student in the Department of Garden Plant Production and Marketing. We organized the program in a week. Celebrating my own culture in another country made me feel good. It made me very happy to be with my friends on such a day and to celebrate this important day at our university.
Prince Owolabi Adeola: I am a student at the Department of International Relations. The Day of Independence reminds me of the times before the 60s, the struggle that our elders give to declare the independence. We were child back then, the historical process was taught to us with the lessons that we receive at school. We taught ourselves by reading books and watching movies. On the day of Nigeria’s independence, I live my national emotions intensely.
Ojekemi Opeoluwa Seum: I am studying at the Department of Business Administration. First of all, I would like to thank European University of Lefke for giving us such possibility. It is very important for us to live our own culture. We live far from our own culture and it is very important for us to celebrate, especially on such emotional days. Hopefully in the next academic year we can make this organization more extensive.
