“Emergency Response Simulations” event held at EUL
2nd year students of European University of Lefke (EUL) Vocational School of Health Services Department of First and Emergency Aid organized an event titled “Emergency Response Simulations” with the aim of applying immediate treatment and rescue skills and knowledge that they gained as a result of two years of education on the realistic cases.

Director of EUL Vocational School of Health Sciences Asst. Prof. Dr. Besim Özyel, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hacer Gönül Demir and the students of First and Emergency Aid attended the event which took place in the campus of EUL. Four different cases were animated in the event and the patients taking part in the animations had realistic make ups. Within the scope of the event, emergency kits in a fitting manner were used.
In the first animation case, the emergency medical technician crew burst on the scene where the patient was suffering from adiaphoresis and hemostasis due to a heart attack with an ambulance and applied resuscitation with intubating the patient. This operation was performed on a manikin.

A case where the patient was injured on the face and in various places and was stuck in as a result of a car accident was performed as the second case. This patient was intervened by emergency medical technician crew students who were in the second group. The crew performed the necessary stabilization and emergency interventions and the patient was stabilized on the stretcher without disturbing the head, neck and trunk axis by applying the KED vest to the traumatized and injured patient who was conscious. In the third case, a patient who was having epileptic seizure was animated by a student and the emergency team in the third group intervened.
In the final case, a patient who was stabbed from the belly and had a severe bleeding as a result of a fight was intervened by the emergency team in the fourth group. In the process of intervention, second evaluation of the patient was conducted and the bleeding was stopped. Later on the patient was given intravenous fluid, stabilized on the stretcher and taken to the ambulance.
While all students of First and Emergency Aid Department attended the event, the animations were watched with great interest by other students and academicians. Under the framework of the event the students of First and Emergency Aid Department had the chance to apply skills and knowledge that they gained.
Furthermore, the students expressed that by means of this event which was in a fitting manner, they were given the opportunity to apply the things they learned and added that this was an opportunity for them to gain self-confidence in the field.
