Immediate Treatment and Rescue Activity was held at EUL
Students’ case animations were watched with interest
European University of Lefke (EUL) Vocational School of Health Services organized an “Immediate Treatment Animation” where the second year students of First and Emergency Aid Department carried out activities to apply their knowledge and skills related to emergency response and rescue in realistic cases in line with the training they received during the two-year period.
Realistic Cases were animated
The event which was moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Hacer Gönül Demir at EUL Campus, the second year students of First and Emergency Aid Department performed four different case animations with the contributions of 1st year students. The cases and the patients / wounded in the cases were prepared by using realistic make-up and emergency materials according to simulation techniques.
In the first scenario of the event, the emergency aid team came to the scene with an ambulance and intubated a patient / injured whose breathing and circulation stopped as a result of a heart attack underwent resisection and these operations were conducted on a model. A case where the patient was injured on the face and in various places and was stuck in as a result of a car accident was performed as the second case. This patient was intervened by emergency medical technician crew students who were in the second group. The crew performed the necessary stabilization and emergency interventions and the patient was stabilized on the stretcher without disturbing the head, neck and trunk axis by applying the KED vest to the traumatized and injured patient who was conscious. In the third case, a patient who was having epileptic seizure was animated by a student and the emergency team in the third group intervened.
In the final case, a patient who was stabbed from the belly and had a severe bleeding as a result of a fight was intervened by the emergency team in the fourth group. In the process of intervention, second evaluation of the patient was conducted and the bleeding was stopped. Later on the patient was given intravenous fluid, stabilized on the stretcher and taken to the ambulance. While all students of First and Emergency Aid Department attended the event, the animations were watched with great interest by other students and academicians.
Under the framework of the event the students of First and Emergency Aid Department had the chance to apply skills and knowledge that they gained. Furthermore, the students expressed that by means of this event which was in a fitting manner, they were given the opportunity to apply the things they learned and added that this was an opportunity for them to gain self-confidence in the field.
