European University of Lefke (EUL) Vocational School of Health Services First and Emergency Aid Department Lecturer Asst. Prof. Dr. Semra Aslay drew attention to the issue of “First Aid in Civil Defense” and gave detailed information.

Asalay: The first condition to ensure life safety is to provide emergency health care in a timely and appropriate manner

“Civil defense is the measures and activities implemented to secure the life and property safety of the people in situations that may result in destructive effects such as war, natural disaster, disease, accident that affect the masses. Aslay stated that the first condition of ensuring the safety of life is the timely and appropriate provision of emergency health services. She stated that the civil defense organization is always ready to solve the emergency health problems of the civilian population, which require shelter, nutrition and first aid, especially in war and natural disasters.

Aslay said, “First aid is the first response that should be provided in case of an acute illness or accident” and stated that first aid practices are at the basis of civil defense. Aslay said, “In cases that affect the majority of the population, emergency healthcare applications cannot be provided only by health personnel and support is required. This support is provided by civil defense organizations. It is possible to provide all these organizations with the “Civil Defense Organization”, she said.

Aslay noted that the first step in civil defense, which assumes the duty of ensuring the safety of life and property in war and peace, is the first aid application in possible disasters or war situations, and that the number of injured or patients requiring first aid is high and the public should be educated about this issue.

Emergency healthcare is only possible with the knowledge of basic first aid that can be applied.

In the continuation of Aslay’s statement, “Considered individually, the purpose of any correct first aid intervention is to improve the health status of the victim. In cases where it is widespread socially, the aim has now turned into a struggle for survival. “The Civil Defense Organization is now responsible for large organizations, uninterrupted aid of educated people, the transport of all living things in the place where the incident took place, to the places where they will be safe, to provide basic needs and to apply uninterrupted first aid.”
