Famous Sportsperson, Author and Commentator Abdülkerim Durmaz talked about Football at EUL
Under the framework of European University of Lefke (EUL) Spring communes Famous Sportsperson, Author and Commentator Abdülkerim Durmaz was a guest of EUL.
Durmaz: I am very joyful to be at EUL, if you invite me again, I will come
In the interview program which took place at EUL Faculty of Law Conference Hall, former player of Fenerbahçe and football program commentator Abdülkerim Durmaz said that, I was very excited about coming to EUL, I am very joyful to be here if you invite me again, I will come.
Durmaz: Playing for Fenerbahçe was an invaluable experience for me
In the interview program which was conducted in the direction with the questions addressed by the students, Durmaz pointed out that he started his football career at the age of 16 when he played for Karagümrük and added that he did not have a long-termed football career. Pointing out that in the 1984-85 season, he was transferred to Fenerbahçe, Durmaz added that in the same year Galatasaray wanted to transfer him but he choose Fenerbahçe since he was Fenerbahçe supporter. Durmaz also said that, “Playing for Fenerbahçe was an invaluable experience for me, I played 5 years for the team and I was one of the most supported players of the team”.
Durmaz criticized the decision of suspending Fenerbahçe – Beşiktaş match
Durmaz who came together with the EUL students came across with intense attention of the EUL Fenerbahçe Club and club fans presented a scarf and flowers to Durmaz. Pointing out that he had a delighted interview, Durmaz thanked EUL administration for their hospitality. In the interview which he gave to EUL TV, Durmaz criticized the decision of referee Mete Kalkavan as suspending Fenerbahçe – Beşiktaş Ziraat Turkey Cup Semi Final second leg match due to the incidents that took place at the tribunes and added that despite the emergence of similar incidents in football history of Turkey, no such decision was given.
Durmaz stated that he was very pleased with the attention that he received at EUL, and he thanked the enthusiastic crowd and the administration of EUL. At the end of the warm interview Durmaz said that he hopes to come to EUL once more and he took souvenir photos with the EUL Fenerbahçe Club.
At the end of the commune a plaque which reflected the Cyprus Culture was presented to Durmaz by the students’ Dean Özgür Yılmabaşar.
