European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Architecture organized an exhibition themed “Student Workshop of City Phantom Drawings and New Year Exhibition”. The event was held with the leadership of Academician of EUL Faculty of Architecture Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayça Arslan and Dr. Nilay Birsel.

Arslan: In the workshop is was aimed to highlight the well-known and famous architectural elements of the world capitals and metropolises.

Giving information about the event Arslan pointed out that within the scope of the Basic Design Course, the students transformed the drawings of the city skylines given by the lecturers into live 3-dimensional, colored, textured living silhouette visuals. She further stated that the cities given to the students within the scope of the workshop consisted of famous architectural elements chosen from the capitals and metropolises of the world, especially in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara, and they wanted to emphasize these elements in the study.

Arslan said that “For example, the Bosphorus Bridge, Maiden’s Tower, Topkapi Palace and Mosques of Istanbul City were created by students in 3-D rendering, 50/70 posters in color” and added that elements of İzmir such as famous ruins of Ephesus, Clock Tower and Konak Square were brought to the fore and presented in 3-dimensional color and lighted poster format. Arslan also said that the symbol of Ankara city, Anıtkabir was transformed into a three-dimensional poster as an architectural element and added that “On the other hand, examples of city silhouettes from abroad were handled for the New Year exhibition, Amsterdam historical canal houses, Turin’s green nature and ancient Roman structures were transformed into 3D models by students”. Arslan further stated that while preparing the posters of the city silhouettes, the students adorned the building facades with colorful cardboards and used natural elements such as mountains and sea as a backdrop for their projects.

Arslan emphasized that the students spent a great deal of work on cutting and gluing the urban facades and transforming them into three-dimensional transformations. Pointing out that students has worked hard during the three workshop days, and showed their sacrifices in order to create the New Year exhibition, Arslan said that “I would like to congratulate all ARCH 151 Basic Design 1 students for their hard work and wish them continued success”.
