EUL School of Nursing celebrated ‘World Nurses Day’ with a programme organised by EUL School of Nursing
‘World Nurses Day’ was celebrated at the European University of Lefke with a programme organised by the School of Nursing. The programme was highly appreciated by the students.
Prof. Dr. Meral Demiralp, Director of the School of Nursing, who made the opening speech of the programme, stated that ‘International Nurses Day’ was established by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in 1974 in order to appreciate the contributions of nurses to health worldwide. Demiralp added that the International Council of Nurses, which represents more than 28 million nurses working worldwide and is a federation of more than 130 national nursing associations, determines a theme every year and celebrates International Nurses Day with activities organised between May 12-18 May in line with this theme. Demiralp advised students to always remember the values of the nursing profession throughout their careers and to see beyond the disease or injury; ‘Each patient or client has a unique story, fears, hopes and dreams. It is our duty to listen carefully, to manage care that goes beyond physicality, covering the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing. On this Nurses‘ Day, let us celebrate and appreciate the lasting contributions of our nurses and students to the health and well-being of society.’ Prof. Dr. Meral Demiralp concluded her speech by expressing her respect and gratitude to Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen, Rector of the European University of Lefke, for the opportunities and support provided for the education of nursing students.
In the programme, the International Nurses Day theme for 2024 was announced in English and Turkish by the Heads of the Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maral Karal Kargın and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Sevim Ünal. The online presentation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeter Sinem Uzar Özçetin, a faculty member at University College Dublin School of Nursing Midwifery and Health Systems, on ‘The Effect of Psychological Resilience on Nursing’ was very interesting.
