EUL Academicians informed producers about viticulture
Comprehensive trainings on viticulture were given to producers in cooperation with the European University of Lefke (EUL) and Iskele Municipality.
In the trainings held at Iskele AKM, EUL Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Lecturers Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Kahramanoğlu and Asst. Prof. Dr. Serhat Usanmaz provided trainings on various subjects.
In the trainings, which were free of charge for producers who are engaged in viticulture and interested in viticulture, Kahramanoğlu gave detailed trainings on the history of viticulture, systematics of the vine, nutritional values and health benefits of grapes, ecological and soil requirements of the vine, fertilisation of vineyards, maturing, and harvesting, while Usanmaz provided detailed training on important grape varieties, old and new viticulture methods, morphology of the vine, vineyard establishment, pruning in the vineyard, disease, and pest control in vineyards.
The faculty members emphasised that although grapevine, which is one of the first plants to be cultivated, is known for its suitability for the Cyprus climate, due to the significant problems (climatic and disease-related) in its production, this and similar trainings are very important in order to ensure specialisation and sustainability in production. The faculty members emphasised that, as a university, it is important to share knowledge, experience, and innovations with producers through these and similar events that contribute to society, as well as education and research, and stated that similar events will continue.
