EUL Academician’s Great Contribution to a Publishing related with Lefke
“Researches on Lefke’s History and Culture” titled book which is edited by European University of Lefke Faculty of Science and Literature Department of History Academician Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elnur Ağayev is published by European University of Lefke.
Pointing out that the book was completed in one year, Ağayev said that it sheds a light on the political, economic, social, cultural and environmental life of Lefke. Ağayev also stated that the book includes 27 academic work related with Lefke and 18 of these works were published in different resources while 9 of them is published for the first time.
Talking about the emergence of the “Researches on Lefke’s History and Culture” titled book’s idea Ağayev stated that she came together with valuable scholar, precious person from Lefke and Lefke lover Harid Fedai in April 2015 in the interest of a common study and after a conversation the idea of preparing a book based on the researches about Lefke history and culture by bringing together the articles and reported statements about Lefke written up to now emerged.
Veteran Names of Cyprus Researches supported the Book
Ağayev who star out to write the book due to the rarity of the studies related with Lefke, worked with veteran names of Cyprus researches such as Prof. Dr. Oğuz Karakartal, Prof. Dr. Ulvi Keser, İsmail Bozkurt, Tuncer Bağışkan, Oğuz Yorgancıoğlu, Assoc. Prof. Nazım Beratlı, and Gülgün Serdar. Ağayev said that, by the means of this study they want to attract attention to this field and added that, “Lefke is one of the oldest settlements of the Cyprus Island. This characteristic of Lefke is confronted in every historical footstep while living in the region. Studies on Lefke are also limited. We aimed to open up a field of research on Lefke by bringing these studies together and adding new ones to the book”.
Referring to the contents of the articles in the book, Aghayev stated that the aim was not to write a detailed history of Lefke, so chronology was followed and the studies about political, economic, social, cultural and environmental aspects related to Lefke were brought together at different periods. Ağayev thanked the authors who contributed to the book , European University of Lefke who published the book and Rector of EUL Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen and said that, “I hope that this work will be a resource for those who study Lefke and will also be in the first place of bookshelf’s for those who study Lefke”.
