EUL Academician Görkem made a statement on “Emotional Endurance”
European University of Lefke (EUL) Guidance and Psychological Counselling Academician Assist. Prof. Dr. Anıl Görkem made a statement on “Emotional Endurance”.
Görkem stated that “Emotional endurance is one’s capacity of being able to adapt tp change and confusion. The individuals who are high in emotional endurance are people who can easily pick up themselves in situations where they are stressed.”Görkem also suggested that emotional endurance is a valid concept both for individuals and institutions.
Görkem: Emotional endurance and indomitableness is a feature which is developed when individuals are tested and are out of their comfort zone.
By stating that “We can’t understand how some people can continue their lives healthily by keeping the joy of living against the difficulty of life, and how some others are easily discouraged by the difficulties and step back” Görkem claims that preparing for life isn’t a process limited by the tests in education period. Emotional endurance and indomitableness is a feature which is developed when individuals are tested and are out of their comfort zone. Görkem claims that there are researchers who suggests some individuals have innate abilities on this issue, whereas it mostly develops during life.She expressed that indomitableness plays a far major role than diploma, experience and occupational technique on life success. Görkem stated that the epitome of this is the individuals who became successful and enriched their lives by gaining multiple competences throughout their conflicts, no matter how disadvantaged background they had or difficulties they faced.
Görkem listed the features necessary for individuals to higher their emotional endurance as;
Accepting the reality, taking lessons, finding a meaning, positive attitude and discipline.
Görkem listed what you can do to raise your emotional endurance as;
- Do Conscious Awareness Exercises: breathing exercises.
- Categorize your Cognitive Burdens: For example; by categorizing our occupational activities as mails, meetings and brainstorming we can concentrate on one at a time. Experts justifies that it relaxes our brain in information processing when we specify a time period for a specific activity during the day.
- Take a break.
- Improve your Mental Agility: It is possible to pause the moment when stressed and assessing the situation objectively then solving the problem.
- Be Compassionate towards Yourself and Others: Never forget that compassion you have for yourself and others will raise your life quality.
As a conclusion Görkem stated that “Individuals who have emotional endurance don’t get desperate during difficult times, try to take out a meaning from difficulties, generates a solution and see the negativities as an opportunity for improvement.” Therefore they developself-sufficiency for difficulties they face later on.
