Denktaş: Shall us not war again!
The EUL Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences organized a conference entitled “The Stage in the Cyprus Negotiations and the Aftermath”. The TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Serdar Denktaş, attended the conference as a speaker at the Conference held at the EUL Faculty of Law Conference Hall.
Denktaş stated that, “First of all, what is the desired outcome for the Turkish Cypriots? A new state, which is formed by two equal states, a new Republic and a new order, which will not carry us to war, will continue to be effective through the factual guarantor of Turkey and will allow us to be able to adapt to the world for a certain time, through trustworthy and mutually rewarding aspects”.
Denktas, “400 years ago was the sole owner of our ancestors from the Ottomans. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the lease of the island to the British, Greek Cypriots have always claimed their rights “. Denktash stated that the Turkish Cypriots had taken an attitude towards the Greeks who were with the British and started organizing against ENOSIS as Karaçete, Volkan and TMT.
Denktas stated that Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots established the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and that this republic lived for three years. Denktas said that Greek Cypriots decided to make a plebiscite by claiming that Cypriot Turks were given more rights in negotiations in their institutional agreements.
Denktaş said that the Turkish Cypriot leadership was opposed to this situation and said, “The Cyprus issue was initiated with the insistence of giving up our political and human rights on the island and continued until 1974”. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş said that Turkish Cypriots had saved their occupied rights as a result of the intervention of Turkey which started with the invasion of Greece.
“The 2004 referendum is a turning point, for the first time a preliminary and comprehensive plan has been drawn up, which was revealed as a result of negotiations between the Turkish Cypriots and the Greek Cypriots separately with the United Nations,” Dentaş said. Denktas explained that it is no longer possible to reach a conclusion with the “solution” mentality of the Greek Cypriot side, since the Greek Cypriot side started with the decision to celebrate Enosis and Anastasiadis declared that “Majority cannot be dominated by the minority”.
Denktas stated that we should be asked about the idea of the termination of the interview process, which is described as a continuation of the uncertainty with a referendum.
After the conference with intense participation, Denktas answered the participants’ questions. Chairman of the Board of Trustees of EUL Özgün Faruk and Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen presented a plaque to Denktaş.
