Attention Drawn to “Food Safety” at EUL
European University of Lefke Faculty of Health Sciences Nutrition and Dietetics Department organized a training programme titled “ISO-22000 Food Safety Management System”.
The training which was organized for the students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, was held with the participations of graduates, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology students, and experts working in relevant private and public institutions.
The head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Prof. Dr. Nevin Aktaş who gave the opening speech of the training program stated that the interest of society and the importance given to the food safety has been increasing steadily and this is a satisfactory situation. Aktaş emphasized that safety problems of primary foods and processed food produced from the primary foods have become increasingly important, and she also underlined that it is extremely important for consumers along with the ones working in the food and nutrition sector to be trained.
Later on, Aktaş draw attention to the threats that may stem from food additives, agricultural and veterinary medicine residues, genetically modified organisms, heavy metals and hygiene problems.
Detailed information on the subject was given by the instructor Aliye Ergin during the two days of the training. On the first day of the training, Ergin gave a comprehensive overview of the food safety management system, including the terms and recipes, general conditions, documentation requirements, management responsibility and resource management. On the second day of the training, she made presentations about safe product planning and realization, validation and improvement of the food safety management system and she also conducted some participant oriented sample works related with ISO-22000 audit.
The training program, which was completed successfully and efficiently, ended with giving “Food Safety Management System” training certificates.
