Important Announcement from Higher Education Council of Turkey (YÖK)
According to the letter sent to the universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), students who are registered in universities recognized by the Board will not be required to attend the TRNC as of 9 March.
YÖK has sent a letter to the rectorate of universities in TRNC, which are included in the Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide, regarding the details of the distance education process that will start on March 23.
In the letter, formal decisions taken at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting held on March 18 due to the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19), regarding associate and undergraduate programs, as well as postgraduate programs of universities recognized by YÖK, which were established in accordance with the TRNC legislation and included in the Guide for Higher
Education Programs and Quotas, were mentioned. These decisions are to carry out the education processes of higher education institutions without interruption as much as possible.
In this context, the theoretical parts of the courses in higher education programs at all levels can be carried out by distance education, if necessary infrastructure and competence are available by the university. This decision is limited to the spring term of 2019-2020 academic year.
For the applied parts of the courses, training will be provided later by making an intensive academic calendar for each program at the appropriate time decided.
Higher education institutions will be able to continue their education and training activities in formal education at the associate, undergraduate and postgraduate levels, by means of the decision of the authorized boards, through distance education with the measures and regulations they will take.
Higher education institutions will be able to use distance education methods simultaneously or without synchronization in all courses in formal education programs.
Considering the exams and the evaluation of student success, the learning achievements of the relevant program and the conflicts and audits that may legally determined by the competent boards of higher education institutions.
The competent boards of these higher education institutions will take into account the disability status of students with disabilities as much as possible in any measures and practices they will take regarding distance education.
The decision in question was recognized by the Board in the following process and with the permission of the Council of Higher Education. It will mean that distance education and training can continue in the formal associate, undergraduate and graduate programs of universities in the TRNC, where the student quota is given, and the application will be valid only during the Kovid-19 epidemic period.
19 outbreak, students who are enrolled in the said programs will not be required to be in the TRNC as of March 9.
In these universities, for the compensation of the courses for the spring semester of 2019-2020 academic year, an intensive academic calendar will be planned according to each program, and summer exams will be applied after the Kovid-19 outbreak, and exams that cannot be held will be held.
These decisions will not include universities that are not recognized by the Council of Higher Education and are not included in the YKS Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide.
