Importance of Blood Donation emphasized at EUL
A seminar themed “Hand in Hand, Soul in Soul for a Life” was organized by European University of Lefke (EUL) Office of Students’ Dean, Red Crescent Club, Nursing and Arts Club and Turkish Red Crescent. Şerife Tutku who is the Responsible Staff of Turkish Red Crescent from Blood Donors, attended the seminar which lasted for two days as the EUL Cinema Hall.
Tutku pointed out that the aim of the seminar as to raise awareness of the public and to encourage them especially in terms of blood donation since donated bloods are not enough in our country, and added that they have touched upon the importance and criteria of blood donation under the framework of the seminar and conducted blood donation campaign after the seminar.
Tutku: We deliver all the blood we collect to the government’s blood bank.
Tutku said that, “In our country 24 thousand units of blood are needed. Ministry of Health blood bank can meet 13 thousand units of it. We have 11,000 units of blood shortage per year” and added that they have signed a protocol named “Safe and Regular Blood Donor Acquisition Program in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” with the Turkish Cypriot Red Crescent, Turkish Red Crescent Association and Ministry of Health with the aim of covering this shortage. Pointing out that under the framework of this program they organize seminars and blood donation campaigns as the Turkish Cypriot Red Crescent, Tutku said that, “We deliver all the blood we collect to the government’s blood bank. Our aim is to direct every individual who is between the ages of 18-65, and above 50kg to blood donation and to inform them.
Tutku: The more informed individuals are, the more aware they are
Tutku said that, “Meeting the needs of our country is deeply related with education. We do these seminars not only in universities, but also in non-governmental organizations, public institutions, private companies and organizations that organize blood donation activities” and said that the more informed individuals are, the more aware they are.
