“Cartoon Workshop” Held at EUL

Assoc. Bezci, who continues his academic work at the Faculty of Language, History, and Geography and is also known for his work as a cartoonist, held engaging and educational sessions with students on interpreting cartoons and artworks.
In the morning session titled “Cartoon Workshop,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenol Bezci provided comprehensive insights into the role and significance of cartoons in communication. He emphasized that cartooning is not just a humorous art form but also a powerful tool to deliver social messages, offer critique, and present events from different perspectives. Sharing detailed information on the definition of cartooning, how it is created, and its formal structure, Bezci conducted an interactive workshop with the participants. Students were given the opportunity to create their own cartoons within assigned themes. The event received great interest, especially from students in the Visual Communication Design and Digital Game Design departments, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Elif Atamaz, the Head of Department, provided support throughout the session. At the end of the workshop, the cartoons created by the students were displayed on boards at the faculty entrance and shared with the entire faculty. This exhibition highlighted the students’ creative expressions and artistic perspectives.
In the afternoon, the second event, titled “Act of Interpretation”, focused on how artworks can be interpreted. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenol Bezci explained in detail that artistic works are not limited to content alone and that every color, light, form, and composition can carry a specific meaning. He emphasized that analyzing and accurately interpreting visual arts and images is crucial for communication students. Bezci guided students on how to make sense of art within the field of communication, offering a thoughtful and academic perspective.
The events provided students with valuable academic and artistic insights.
These sessions helped students develop creative thinking skills and broaden their perspectives on visual arts. With high student engagement, the events proved to be highly productive and underscored the Faculty of Communication Sciences’ commitment to fostering artistic expression and critical thinking in its education.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenol Bezci’s sharing of his knowledge and experience offered significant academic and artistic gains for students.
