A Meaningful Visit from the European University of Lefke to Kalkanlı Life House
The European University of Lefke (EUL) organized a meaningful event as part of its Community Service Applications course. Under the guidance of their instructor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Figen Yaman Lesinger, students visited the Kalkanlı Life House and spent time with the elderly residents. During the visit, the students played various games with the elderly and shared enjoyable moments, strengthening their sense of social responsibility while also reinforcing intergenerational bonds.
“During the visit, generational bonds were strengthened”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Figen Yaman Lesinger stated that such events are important in developing students’ ability to contribute to society and increasing their social sensitivity. “Our elderly represent the core values of our society and the accumulated knowledge of the past. By spending time with them, we not only make them happy but also help our students develop their empathy skills,” said Lesinger, emphasizing that the event had a positive impact on the students. The games played and conversations held with the elderly during the visit created a meaningful day for the residents of the nursing home. The elderly expressed that being with young people gave them energy and shared their satisfaction with the students’ sincere approach. The students, on the other hand, stated that this event made them realize how valuable it is to touch the lives of the elderly.
Lesinger announced that such activities will continue in the upcoming spring semester. These regular visits are expected to not only raise social awareness among students but also contribute to the social lives of the elderly. This meaningful initiative by the European University of Lefke is considered an exemplary effort in encouraging young people to participate in social responsibility projects. The university’s community service-oriented approach continues to make valuable contributions for both students and the local community.
