EUL Academician Ermiyagil participated in the Symposium on Critical Approaches to Interior Architecture
European University of Lefke Graduate Education and Research Institute Assistant Director Asst. Prof. Dr. M. Selen Abbasoğlu Ermiyagil participated in the Critical Approaches to Interior Architecture Symposium and conducted a presentation on “Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Awareness in Interior Architecture Education”.
Ermiyagil provided information about the symposium, ” As part of the symposium, very valuable scientists, researchers, and academicians from different countries who carry out academic studies in the field of interior architecture came together. In the symposium, important issues related to various sub-headings were discussed. The symposium was primarily open to researchers working in the fields of Interior Architecture, Architecture, Industrial Design and Urban Design.”
Ermiyagil made statements on the subject of “Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Awareness in Interior Architecture Education” at the symposium “Artificial Intelligence is used in many fields today with the developing technology. In the discipline of Interior Architecture, it has started to be used by interior architects and interior architecture students in design processes. From this point of view, the aim of this study is to reveal the awareness of interior architecture students about artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, their usage areas and their expectations from these programmes”, and accordingly, Ermiyagil stated that the research started with the determination of the most common artificial intelligence programs (e.g. ChatGPT, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion) used by the students.
“The aim of the study is to reveal interior architecture students’ awareness of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, their usage areas and their expectations from these programs”
“In line with the observations and one-to-one interviews made in the design course processes of the third and fourth year Interior Architecture students of the European University of Lefke, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the awareness of the students and their expectations from the use of artificial intelligence in the design processes were questioned. The findings revealed that students’ awareness of the latest artificial intelligence technologies is limited and they have concerns about the use of artificial intelligence in design processes. At the same time, it has been determined that students need to be guided in developing the competence of artificial intelligence programmes used in interior architecture education processes and that they are very open to learning.” Ermiyagil noted that artificial intelligence programmes have an important place in interior architecture education processes today and concluded that it is a necessity for academicians to improve themselves in the use of artificial intelligence.
Ermiyagil lastly expressed that “In this context, depending on the study data, suggestions have been developed on the use and teaching of artificial intelligence in the interior architecture education process”.
