EUL Department of Primary Mathematics Education has organised a Mathematics Festival
European University of Lefke (EUL) Department of Primary Mathematics Teaching Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurdan Özreçberoğlu Kırıkkaleli stated that it is possible for children, who are the brightness of today, to learn mathematics, which they are anxious about, in a fun way with games.
In the opening speech of the festival, Kırıkkaleli mentioned that mathematics is used in every moment and every field of our lives and stated that the games played within the scope of the mathematics festival aim to gain target learning skills and discover the colourful side of mathematics. Kırıkkaleli also added that the materials used in the games were developed within the scope of the 2022-2023 Autumn Term and 2023-2024 Autumn Term “Teaching Mathematics with Games” Course and stated that the materials developed by taking into account the subject levels of the relevant course curriculum were played with the participation of Lefke Gazi High School 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in the festival.
“The games, which the students enjoyed, provided an opportunity for students to realise their own knowledge and to make decisions with strategic thinking. In this way, the students, who expressed that they saw the enjoyable side of mathematics by competing, expressed that they would be happy to participate in such activities again while leaving the campus.” Kırıkkaleli also expressed his thanks to those who contributed to the realisation of the festival and to the prospective teachers who played the games.
