European University of Lefke (EUL) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education organised a panel titled “Being a Teacher in the 100th Year of the Republic of Türkiye and the 40th Year of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”.
As part of the 24 November Teachers’ Day, the opening speech of the event, which took place in two separate panels and continued throughout the day, was made by EUL Dr. Fazıl Küçük Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Nergüz Bulut Serin. In her opening speech, Serin thanked everyone who participated in the panel on “Being a Teacher in the 100th Year of the Republic of Türkiye and the 40th Year of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” and continued her speech as follows: “Teachers; you will raise the new generation, the devoted teachers and educators of the Republic, the new generation will be your creation!” The words of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Head Teacher, still shed light on us. The most important characteristic of a teacher is a heart full of love and a spirit of dedication. In the centenary year of the Republic, the teacher is the one who carries the values of the Republic, shows a democratic attitude, constantly renews himself or herself, directs towards truth and beauty, is a guide who believes in lifelong learning, and makes the future smile with confidence. It is the one who teaches us to never give up the struggle, to always hope, not to give up, and to resist all difficulties with all our strength, no matter what. Especially our university, which follows educational programmes that take into account that globalisation and information society are dynamic and ongoing formations and provides its students with learning environments that enable them to develop as individuals who have the necessary equipment for the teaching profession, research, and questioning, educates its students with this vision
