Biophilic design was discussed in the studies of EUL Academicians
European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Architecture and Design, Head of Interior Architecture Department Asst. Prof. Dr. M. Selen Abbasoğlu Ermiyagil and Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Feriha Urfalı Doğu’s article on “Evaluation of Biophilic Design Parameters on Hospitals: Cengiz Topel Hospital, Yeşilyurt” were published.
The academicians provided the following information about the article: The importance and positive effects of nature and open spaces on people’s physical, psychological, and social health began to be understood after the industrial revolution. It is known that the positive effects of the natural environment, natural light, colour, and interior design of hospitals positively affect the mental and physical illnesses, health, and recovery processes of patients. Biophilic design is an approach that integrates nature and buildings and maintains the human-nature relationship in interior spaces. The main goals of this design approach are to increase the quality of life and well-being of people, to design buildings integrated with nature, and to strengthen the human-nature relationship in interior spaces. For this reason, biophilic design is very important in hospital buildings as well as in many interior spaces.
In the article, Cengiz Topel Hospital was selected as the study site and evaluated according to biophilic design criteria
The main purpose of this study is to investigate the presence of biophilic design parameters in the selected hospital building. Within the scope of the research, documentation and visual analysis techniques from qualitative research methods were used. Cengiz Topel Hospital in Yeşilyurt was selected as the study site and evaluated according to biophilic design criteria. The hospital structure, designed in 1929, still functions today. As a result of the analysis conducted within the scope of the study, it was determined that Cengiz Topel Hospital incorporates many biophilic parameters.
