A conference on “Child and Migration” was held at EUL
A conference on “Child and Migration” was organized by European University of Lefke (EUL) Dr. Fazıl Küçük Education Faculty, Department of Basic Education.
Specialist Çağrı Peköz, who attended the conference themed as Child and Migration organized by the EUL Department of Basic Education as a guest speaker, talked about “Child and Migration”, touched on the different dimensions of the concept of migration and emphasized that this concept is basically about having to go from one place to another.
Mentioning that the TRNC is a country that receives immigrants from more than 30 countries, Peköz mentioned that the children of immigrant families who come to our country receive education in the same classes as their Turkish-speaking peers. “This also provides a multicultural environment to the classrooms. Although multicultural classes represent a cultural richness, there are also negative effects of not knowing Turkish in these classes. Likewise, immigrant children may experience communicative problems with their peers or teachers,” Peköz said, noting that this may cause them to experience peer rejection at an early age and to have more serious problems in the social cohesion stage in the future. Peköz added that in this context, regulations are needed on the education of immigrant children, their adaptation to school and the organization of multicultural environments in schools
