Anadolu Agency Publishing Editor Dr. Barışkan Ünal met with the students of EUL Faculty of Communication Sciences.

“The principles of journalism cannot be compromised…”

The last guest of the Communication Days event series organized by the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the European University of Lefke, Anadolu Agency Editorial Dr. Bariskan Unal was born. In the conversation that took place online and in English, Ünal shared his experiences on “Agency and Agency Journalism”.

Unal, who started his speech by stating the definition of news agency and the understanding of journalism of news agencies, put forward the differences between agencies and press organizations and expressed why news agents are needed.

Ünal: “The most important difference between press organizations and agencies is their target audience”

Emphasizing that the most important difference between press organizations and agencies is their target audience, Anadolu Agency Editorial Editor Ünal stated that agencies serve news about events on different topics such as economy, politics, culture and art to press organizations, while press organizations select and use these news in line with their own broadcasting principles.

In his speech, Ünal said, “The news agencies around the world have the opportunity to instantly report and quickly convey the events that occur in the country or in different parts of the world, with their widespread press offices and their reporters specialized in different subjects.”

Unal, who also gave information to students about writing correct news, emphasized that news made for the sake of “click” should be avoided, especially in digital environments, and that the principles of journalism should not be abandoned by adhering to the 5N+1K rule.

In his speech, Barışkan Ünal, who also touched upon the deep-rooted history and working principles of Anadolu Agency, answered the questions from the students at the end of his speech.

Working as a reporter and then Washington chief correspondent at Anadolu Agency since 2007, Dr. Barışkan Ünal is currently the Editor of Anadolu Agency.
