EUL Academician also presented a paper at the meeting where Contactless Design Training was discussed
European University of Lefke (EUL) Architecture Faculty Interior Architecture Department Head Asst. Prof. Dr. M. Selen Abbasoğlu Ermiyagil, the Inner Chamber President Emrah kaymak and the education department heads and representatives of Turkey and Northern Cyprus from 40 different universities joined “15. Interior Architecture Department Head Meeting ” which is organized online with the main theme “Contactless” organized by Istanbul Kültür University Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
Ermiyagil stated that the theme of the meeting which was organized to create a communication environment between universities that provide interior architecture education and to develop solutions by opening discussions on disciplinary issues, was determined as “Contactless” during the pandemic process that the world and our country faced, and the Covid-19 epidemic and interior architecture education stated that they are going through similar processes with other design trainings.
Ermiyagil stated that the dynamics of non-contact interior architecture education were tried to be questioned in the context of the following topics within the scope of the meeting, and listed these titles as follows;
-Traditional design studio on the brink of change
– Contactless design studio
– Learner and teacher relations-communication-interaction
– New methods and tools
-Possibilities and impossibilities
-Adaptation of the training curriculum
-Concurrent applications
-Informal practices
Ermiyagil, at the meeting, stated that she presented the views of the students about the new normal of EUL design workshops in addition to her presentation titled “Examination of Contactless Design Education via Interior Architecture Design Studios” and she stated that the design workshop courses constitute the main skeleton of the architecture and interior architecture departments and she also emphasized that it has a very important place in the students’ educational processes.
Ermiyagil said, “With the basic design workshops, which are the principles in the Design Workshop courses, the students will gain skills such as not only with listening, but also designing, developing, creating, questioning, thinking, researching, they will be able to design from their own critical point of view”. She stated that students are expected to face problems and produce solutions after graduation while they are designing spaces with its different functions in the design workshops.
Ermiyagil stated that in the design workshops, the design education model, which has been going on for hundreds of years in the field of face-to-face master apprentices, suddenly undergoes a serious change in March 2020 due to Covid-19, which has affected the world in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and She said that they can make evaluations during the non-contact design training education in the Covid-19 outbreak.
