Prof. Dr. Bengül Yurdukoru, Dean of European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Dentistry made some statements on the occasion of “22 November World Dentistry Day” and conveyed detailed information.
Yurdukoru: It’s the 111st anniversary of Modern Dentistry in Turkey
Pointing out that on the 22 November World Dentistry Day and Communal Dental and Oral Health Day, Turkey is celebrating 111st anniversary of Modern Dentistry, Yurdukoru stated the establishment of First School of Dentistry in Turkey as the reason for acceptance of November 22nd as the World Dentistry Date. Yurdukoru said that “The day of establishment of the school was accepted as November 22, 1908 on the basis of the record that the budget of the Dentist School, which is in the record book of the Teachers Assembly of the Faculty of Medicine, was sent to the Ministry of Education by Prof. Dr. Ziya Cemal Büyükaksoy” and added that the first School of Dentistry in Turkey was established on 22 November 1908 but it actually began offering education in 1909.
Dentistry rehabilitation options have been successfully applied, but society is not equally successful in oral health.
Yurdukoru stated that “The week that consists 22nd November is celebrated as the “Communal Dental and Oral Health Week” with the aim of reflecting the importance of dental and oral health to the community” and added that while the 111th anniversary of dentistry is being celebrated, and the advanced dentistry rehabilitation options in the profession are being successfully applied, society is not equally successful in oral health.
Yurdukoru: In the Community Oral Health System (TADS), the target is community health
Yurdukoru expressed that the identification and solution of oral health problems requires a new understanding of the new methods to the wider groups, which exceeds the patient-physician framework and underlined the necessity of addressing health services to a wide range that covers not only the problems of individuals, but also all social groups. Yurdokoru further said that the goal of the dentist in dental clinical practice is individual patients and that in the Community Oral Health System (TADS) the target is the health of the society.
Yurdukoru added that to solve the communal oral health problems, Dentistry should be accepted by all disciplines with a common path. Yurdukoru finally said that “I would like to congratulate all of our colleagues on 22 November World Dentistry Day, on the occasion of communal oral dental health week”
