Rwanda Commemoration Program held at EUL
European University of Lefke Social and Cultural Activities Centre and International Student Club organized a commemoration program on the 25th anniversary of Rwandan Genocide and introduced Rwanda. The commemoration program which was held at the Conference Hall EUL Faculty of Law started after a moment of silence followed by the National Anthems of Turkey and Rwanda. In the event, which included video demonstrations about the genocide, Rwandan students from various universities of the TRNC came together.
Students expressed their thoughts and feelings about the genocide in the commemoration program as follows:
Derrick Ivan Mucyo: I am a student of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. This activity is a sign of respect for the people who have lost their lives, but this includes showing the whole world and giving the message that it will not be repeated. It is an honour for us to introduce Rwanda in EUL, which includes various cultures.
Ariane Nkurunziz: I’m a student at the Department of Civil Engineering. The main purpose of this event is to remember this sad event by remembering and respecting the people who died in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. It is important to represent our country here. Thanks to this event, we had the opportunity to show where we came from. I would like to thank EUL for supporting international students and for encouraging such activities.
Clement Kabanda: I am a graduate student in the Department of Environmental Sciences. With this event, we are trying to create awareness for this tragedy on its 25th commemoration year on other countries and the world community. These activities help us to promote our country and build our future. We would like to thank EUL for being a part of this event. Thanks to this event, we felt like home
Mary Grace Uway: I am a graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. We commemorate the people who died in 1994 and this program informed us about our history and emphasized that this event should not be repeated.
Ines Fiona Ikuzwe: I’m a student in the Department of Civil Engineering. With this event, we commemorate the people who lost their lives in the 1994 Rwandan genocide and listened to the thoughts of the young generation. What we have emphasized with this activity is that the same event can happen to other countries and therefore we should always support peace. We would like to thank our university for supporting this organization.
