Dean of European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Bengül Yurdukoru made some statements on the occasion of “22 November Dentists’ Day” and conveyed detailed information.

Yurdukoru: First faculty of Dentistry was established in 22 November 1908.

Pointing out that the aim of 22 November Dentists’ Day as paying respect to the profession of dentists, Yurdukoru said that 22 of November is regarded as the National Dentists’ Day because it is the establishment of first Faculty of Dentistry. Yurdukoru said that, “Foundation of the school is accepted as 22nd November because the registration of the budget of the Dental School was sent to Ministry of Education on the 22 November 1908” and added that the first School of Dentistry in Turkey was established in 1908 but it started its education life in 1909.

Yurdukoru stated that the first number of the school’s graduates was 43 and in 1926 it reached 84 and added that with the adaption of “the Mode of Execution of Medicine and Medical sciences” in 1928, the authority to apply the profession was only given to the School of Dentistry and since then the profession of dentistry became a discipline.

Yurdukoru said that Modern Dentistry started with the establishment of İstanbul University Faculty of Dentistry in 1933 and added that with the increasing number of Dentistry Faculties, the number of well-equipped dentists have also started to increase.

Yurdukoru: The society is informed about oral and dental health during the “Oral and Dental Health” week

Yurdukoru said that, “Upon the application of Turkish Dental Association, 22 of November is accepted as the “Dentists’ Day” and added that, with the approval of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior in 1996, the week of 22 November is celebrated as the “Oral and Dental Health”.

Yurdukoru also pointed out that, under the framework of “Oral and Dental Health Week which also includes the 22 November, apart from determining a theme related with the social dental health, a variety of activities are organized to raise the awareness to the occupational problems, raise awareness of the society about oral and dental health, place the idea of preventive dentistry, gain the habit of going to dental health checks at regular intervals, and to raise public awareness about dental services.
