The Role of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation in Pain-free Life addressed at EUL
First Day of 3rd National Congress on Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation attracted Intense Participation
The first day of 3rd National Congress on Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation organized by the European University of Lefke (EUL) Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Turkish Cypriot Association of Physiotherapists which will continue until December 8th, took place at the EUL Faculty of Law Conference Hall on 6th December.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen, Rector of EUL, Aziz Kaya, Mayor of Lefke, Vice Rectors, Academic and Administrative staff, head and members of Turkish Cypriot Association of Physiotherapists, many guests and students attended the congress.
The congress which started after a minute of silence followed by the Turkish National Anthem, included the speeches of Assist. Prof. Dr. Gülbin Ergin, Head of Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Şahveren Çakartaş, Head of Turkish Cypriot Association of Physiotherapists, and Prof. Dr. Rümeysa Demirdamar, Acting Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences and Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy.
Ergin: During the congress, the concept of pain will be discussed from a multidisciplinary perspective
Pointing out that every year, many people from the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation including scientists and professionals come together by the means of many scientific meetings and congresses; sharing of new, different and useful information and experiences, Ergin said that “This year, we are honored to host our congress, which aims to bring together all physiotherapy and rehabilitation families in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and to see you among us”. Stating that during the congress, the concept of pain will be discussed from a multidisciplinary perspective, Ergin said that “In this way, we hope that comprehensive and up-to-date information sharing will continue for all health professionals, especially physiotherapists, with its rich content”.
Çakartaş: With the support of EUL, we are happy to conduct the third of our congress.
Çakartaş said that “First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the Rector of EUL Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen for his invaluable contributions and support” and expressed his gratitude for being able to conduct the third of our congress with the support and support of EUL. Giving information about the Turkish Cypriot Association of Physiotherapists, Çakartaş said that there are 192 physiotherapists registered so far and they are working with other professional organizations of the union and doing activities to create and develop the working areas they deserve.
Demirdamar: I wish a very successful congress in scientific and social terms
Demirdamar said that the share of information technology in the last 30 years and the frequency of use has also affected the health sector and added that “The healthcare sector has reached the point where we could never have imagined before”. Demirdamar said that this point affects the health services and all health workers within the health service force and requires current monitoring of health quality, methods and innovations. Underlining that the impact of these developments in the field of health on physiotherapy and its impact on rehabilitation approaches will be handled with an interdisciplinary approach under the framework of the congress and wished a very successful congress in scientific and social terms.
After the opening speeches, Rector Yükselen was presented a plaque by Çakartaş. The first day of the congress started after a cello concert.
The presentations of the congress whose first session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Rümeysa Demirdamar and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Bakırhan were as follows; Physiology / Pathology / Identification of Pain by Prof. Dr. Ataç Sönmez (Dokuz Eylül University), Pain Assessment from an Anesthesiologist point of view by Assist. Prof. Dr. Serkan Telli (European University of Lefke), Pain Assessment from an Physiotherapist by Prof. Dr. Uğur Cavlak (European University of Lefke), Quality of Life and Pain by Prof. Dr. Ferhan Soyuer (Nuh Naci Yazgan Univeristy).
“The Causes and Identification of the Pain” themed open panel was held in the second session. The presentations of the second session which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Didem Karadibak and Prof. Dr. Ferhan Soyuer’in were as follows; Adult Neurology by Prof. Dr. Bilge Kara (Dokuz Eylül University), Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation by Prof. Dr. Sema Savcı (Dokuz Eylül University), Oncological Rehabilitation by Prof. Dr. Tülin Düger (Hacettepe University), Intensive Care by. Prof. Dr. Deniz Inal Ince (Hacettepe University), Hematologic Rehabilitation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İlke Keser (Gazi University).
The subject “Medical and Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Approaches in Acute and Chronic Pain” was discussed in the second session which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Tülin Düger, Assist. Prof. Dr. Gülbin Ergin with the following presentations; Pharmacological Approaches in Pain Management by Prof. Dr. Rümeysa Demirdamar (European University of Lefke), Treatment Approaches in Algology by Prof. Dr. Birol Balaban (European University of Lefke), Electrophysical Agents- by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Çetişli Korkmaz (Pamukkale University), Acupuncture Treatment by Dr. Z. Işıl Birkan (Ankara Acupuncture Center). At the end of the sessions verbal presentations were conducted with the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sema Savcı and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hilal Telli.
