“Obesity from the Perspective of a Dietitian” discussed at EUL
European University of Lefke Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nutrition and Dietetics organized a panel themed “Obesity from the Perspective of a Dietitian”. The presentations by experts about obesity which is observed in all age groups increasingly were made under the framework of the panel.
In the panel which attention was drawn to epidemiologically increased obesity, the aim was to get expert recommendations on the questions of why has obesity become widespread, and the treatment and prevention of obesity with nutrition. The panel in which the role of preventing obesity in reducing the risk of development of other chronic diseases and the importance of the cost constraint of community expenditures, was conducted in two different sessions.
First session was moderated by Dean of EUL Health Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr. Ruhi Selçuk Tabak and Academician of Health Sciences Faculty Assist. Prof. Dr. Macide Artaç Özdal. Discussed subjects in the first session were as follows; Academician of Hasan Kalyoncu University Prof. Dr. Gülden Pekcan “Epidemiology of Obesity” and Academician of Cyprus International University Prof. Dr. Nilgün Karaağaoğlu “Childhood Obesity”. The presentations of EUL Department of Nutrition and Dietetics academicians in the first session of the panel were as follow; Assist. Prof. Dr. Tuba Günebak “Obesity and Cardiovascular Diseases”, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nazal Bardak “Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome “and Assist. Prof. Dr. Anıl E. Güngör “Obesity and Cancer”.
The presentations of the second session which was moderated by Head of EUL Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Prof. Dr. Nevin Aktaş and Director of Vocational School of Health Sciences Assist. Prof. Dr. Besim Özyel were as follows; Academician of METU Assist. Prof. Dr. Ceren Gezer “Obesity and Microbiota” and Dr. Dietitian Aygün Kuyumcu “Bariatric Surgery in Obesity Surgery”.
In the panel which was conducted with the aim stressing the causes of obesity in order to prevent prevalence, the use of a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of the obesity in both achieving permanent success and maintaining the healthy life of the individual was emphasized.
