“Ways to be Happy” discussed at EUL
Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Ünsal Söylemezoğlu attended the conference titled “Ways to be Happy” organized by European University of Lefke School of Health Department of Nursing as a speaker.
Şelimen: While nurses give hope and happiness to their patients, they also need to be healthy and happy individuals.
Pointing out the increasing importance of nursing profession in her opening speech, Director of Health School Prof. Dr. Deniz Şelimen emphasized that the theme of International Council of Nurses is determined as “Health is a Human Right” and added that while nurses who serve humanity give hope and happiness to their patients, they also need to be healthy and happy individuals.
Söylemezoğlu: Talking, listening and having a conversation is vital for healthy communication
Participant guest Prof. Dr. Ünsal Söylemezoğlu touched upon the concept of human communication in her presentation and pointed out that close relationships that people establish with other people have an important place in joy of living, and added that common cultures, values, and pleasures affect these relationships. Söylemezoğlu said that “Especially in marriages, friendships, we have to strengthen our common values more than individual values” and added that it is important to maintain these relationships as bilateral and not to allow third persons to interference.
Touching upon the fact that how to maintain healthy communication, Söylemezoğlu pointed out that talking, listening and having a conversation is vital for healthy communication. Söylemezoğlu finally said that “Listen with your emotions and with your heart. Try to understand how people feel. When you listen with your mind, you will ignore what you feel. It is very comforting that someone understands and knows you. Be happy and make happy” and gave some advices to the students.
